New five-week-series of classes: MONDAYS, Nov 9 - Dec 7

7:00 - 8:15 pm Fundamentals of Tango
Get it right the first time! Connection, walking, posture, cross, ochos, and simple turns. How to pass and accept (or refuse) the invitation to dance and the etiquette on the social dance floor. This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as dancers with more experience who wish to perfect the basics.

8:30 - 9:45 pm Salon Tango: Walk & Figures with Embellishments
Technique and Combinations Sleek, elegant, and measured walking that reflects the musical phrases. How to play with the size of the step, switching weight, accelerating and slowing down. Technique, musicality, cadencia. Fancy moves and alluring adornments that are suitable for social dancing.

MIT, Building 36, Room 156 (50 Vassar St., parking on the street or 'T' Kendall Sq.) map

Admission:
For each whole 5-week-series: $75 general public / $35 MIT students / $50 other students. For both whole 5-week-series: $130 general public / $60 MIT students / $85 other students. MIT Spouses prices adjusted to their spouse status. Payment (cash or personal check) is due in the first class and it is non-refundable.

MIT TANGO CLASSES FOR THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

*** If you are not a MIT student you'll have to purchase MIT athletic membership in order to attend these classes. However, once you've done so, you don't have to pay any additional fees. Since the size of the class will be limited to 20, MIT students will have priority when registering for the classes

When:  Tue/Thr, Oct 27 - Dec 8

Time:  3-4 pm and 4-5 pm, both classes beginner level

Where:  Du-Pont T-Club, 120 Vassar Street, MIT

 

LEVEL DESCRIPTION:

** Beginner class: It  is suitable for beginners and dancers with some prior experience who wish to perfect the basics. Get it right the first time! Learn how to lead and follow anyone. Walking, cross, ochos, and simple turns.

** Intermediate class: Building on basic concepts and connection between partners, we add in this class some new fancy moves that are suitable for social dancing (milongas). The leaders will practice their navigation skills and learn how to creatively combine elements by switching systems and sides of embrace. The followers will be challenged to a variety of interesting intermediate moves, such as voleos, ganchos and volcadas, while creating beautiful lines, and adding adornments. All participants must have completed a beginner course in Argentine tango.
